SAP MRO
The
Problem - My MRO room is not staffed on a
full time basis and the inventory levels are not
always correct. Normally this is not a
problem. However last week we needed a
hose coupler to make an emergency repair and we
were unable to get the machine back on line
because the part could not be located in the
stockroom.
Every
manufacturing environment has a Materials
Requisition Operation (MRO) Stockroom where
valuable spare parts for production equipment
are stored. Many times, this area is
overlooked until the day when a parts outage
impacts production. With the
implementation of cost reduction initiatives
many manufacturers have gone to an easy three
step process for operating their MRO stock
rooms. These steps involve the retrieval
of issued parts by the repair technician (Step
One - Self Service). The manual recording
of the requisitioned parts (Step Two -
Paper-Based Recording). The entry of the
paper based recording into SAP (Step Three - SAP
Posting).
The
process seems simple yet many MRO rooms have a
poor level of stock level accuracy due to the
lack of systematic controls. The reasons
are simply human in nature:
"The wrong part number was recorded on the
check out log"
The
incorrect quantity was recorded on the check out
log"
"The check out log was not completed at all"
" The recording of the requisition transaction
was not completed in SAP"
Recognizing this problem, Avalon has developed a
Self-Service MRO Requisition Solution which
facilitates the retrieval of material from the
stock room and provides a systematic update to the SAP
Host environment. Features of the solution
include:
|
|
 |
Location Identification
- Text based material description search
for identifying material storage
location(s) within the stockroom.
|
|
|
 |
Data Recording - Intuitive 5-Step
Bar Code Scanner Application. The
application provides a guided approach
for the systematic recording of material
at the point of retrieval making the
process easy to complete. |
|
|
 |
Data Monitoring
- In order to review entered requisition
data, MRO staff use a Microsoft Excel™
based monitoring spreadsheet to review
and edit requisition data from the
scanner. |
|
|
 |
SAP Posting
- Once data is reviewed, the posting
routine is initiated from the Microsoft Excel™
application and returns a posting
confirmation from SAP. |
|
|
 |
Material and Location Label Printing
- The solution includes an integrated
Ad-Hoc Bar Code Label Printing Solution
for completing Ad-Hoc material and
location labeling.
